100% Kona
Kona is one of the world's classic coffee origins. It is grown by hundreds of passionate small farmers, on holdings averaging less than three acres, on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Kona is produced exclusively from trees of a traditional strain of Typica, one of the world's oldest coffee varieties. The Kona beans we sell are selectively hand-picked, usually by the farmers themselves, and wet-processed using the traditional ferment-and-wash method. This classic heritage is reflected in the fundamental Kona cup, with its gently lively acidity and high-toned, clean complexity.
But not all Kona cups are the same. The complex micro-climates of the rugged Kona terrain, and variations in husbandry and processing among Kona farmers has created a fascinating array of variations. These unique and subtle shifts range from sweet and simple, through sweet and delicately complex, to exhilaratingly fruity, to (at the highest growing altitudes) grandly austere and acidy.
We offer seven varieties of some of the highest-grade Kona available. In fact, we don't even sell Kona Prime, a lower-grade Kona — we don't consider it of a high enough quality for our customers. To learn more about each individual coffee, click on a coffee name below!
